Thanks again for being responsible people and doing a great job in this program. A lot of people count on you....me, your site supervisors and of course...your patients.
Remember...time sheets must be signed and turned in every Wednesday. Call me if you are having difficulty getting a signature. Did you turn in your evaluation? If not, call me to confirm that I have received it in my mailbox here at GHS.
That's it for now. I'll put a new message on the blog on Monday 2/1 and another on Tuesday 2/2.
Take care and I'll see you soon.

Tomorrow we'll answer that question together. Another question....why is the lymph system considered when a cancer diagnosis is made? Answer that for me if you need extra credit...some of you need it to save your T2 or Q3 grade.

How Many Hours Do You Have?
Hello Students....
Thank you once again for doing such a great job at your sites!
DUE WEDNESDAY JANUARY 27TH:
TIME SHEETS AND STUDENT EVALUATION SIGNED BY
YOUR SUPERVISOR AND/OR CO-WORKER AND......A RESUME FOR YOUR PORTFOLIO (SEE WWW.ABOUT.COM IF YOU NEED AN ENTRY LEVEL SAMPLE)
You should have accumulated 45-50 hours at this point. Check the printout and your records on Wednesday. Some of you are doing GREAT and have 45+ and a few of you need to add in more hours. That can be done, just don't let it get away from you. It's really hard to make up hours toward the end of the school year.
More tomorrow...please check the blog daily. Thank you.

NEED STUDENTS TO SPEAK AT UPCOMING SCHOOL BOARD MEETINGS -
Are you a student who went to Sunol Glen prior to entering High School? I’m looking for a couple students who might speak next Tues, Jan 19th at the Sunol Glen Unified School Board meeting (about 6 pm) when I do a TVROP presentation. If you do, please contact Mrs. Erceg. Sorry about the short notice. We just got the date confirmed.
Our superintendent of ROP is also looking for 3-4 students to present at the LVJUSD Board presentation on Tues, Jan 26th. She would like students who have different reasons for taking ROP – they may have already known what they want to do and ROP is the perfect fit; weren’t sure and ROP helped them find direction for their passion, were totally lost without any direction, etc. I’d like at least one traveling student who is taking ROP on a campus other than a LVJUSD school.
CALL MRS. ERCEG IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN SPEAKING AT EITHER MEETING. She will contact Diane Centoni for you. (510) 305-5111

Plans for Training?
Hi Folks,
Thank you for doing a great job out there. The experience you get now will really pay off later. Remember....the experience and the career portfolio are your ticket to a new job and/or career!
Consider what you will be doing next year...a new job? Community College? 4-Year College? Maybe a special training program?
Training Plans are due tomorrow. Make sure you have a copy to turn in and one for yourself. See previous blog entry for details on content.
To be clear, I need the left hand column to have categories. Use the categories listed and you may add some of your own. List under each category what you currently do and what you and your site have considered as tasks you can do in the future, either supervised or unsupervised.
We'll talk about work relationships tomorrow, as well as other topics in our curriculum.
REMEMBER your timesheets(s) ! Make sure they are signed.
Take care,
Mrs. Erceg

As I visited students today, there was a lot of good meetings going on with supervisors about the training plan. Here's some more info that might help:
- Use the categories provided, and you may add some too. Categories are Orientation, Secretarial/Receptionist, Infection Control, Office Housekeeping and Assisting.
- Ask your supervisor for a copy of a job description that is similar to the volunteer work you are doing. That will give you some ideas. Stay within your scope of practice, which allows you to assist health care workers and patients without any invasive procedures performed.
- You can leave the columns to the right blank for now and continue to work with your site to add and check off items as time goes on.
- If you are not sure how to complete this assignment, call me right away on my cell. Call during the day, as I may not have my cell on in the evenings. Make sure you have your assignment with you on Wednesday. Thank you.
Please make TWO copies of your training plan. One for your CC binder and one to turn in to me on WEDNESDAY, 1/13.
Please call me if you have ANY questions about completing a training plan. Get your timesheet(s) signed!
Take care,

Blog is Back Up
Hi Everyone,
Thank you for a very nice day yesterday. I don't think I tell you enough...you are doing a great job, not just for the program, but for all the patients/clients you assist during the week. I love hearing all the compliments about your professionalism and wonderful attitudes. This is the big time folks, and you are really proving yourself. What a fantastic career portfolio you will have!
As a reminder, here's what I am looking for - a training plan, using the format I handed out. Customize the left hand column to create a list of tasks you perform and/or observe, tasks that you would perform and would like to perform and/or observe, and plans for tasks to perform without supervision. Go over a draft with your supervisor or a colleague, then type up a final draft. One copy for me (due Wed 1/13) and one to keep for your binder. You do not have to give one to the supervisor unless they would like to have a copy.
We'll continue to work on our career portfolios and start some new curriculum on Wednesday next week. Remember to keep the daily log/journal up to date. You only need to write basic notes, about 3 to 5 sentences. You are welcome to write more if you had a big day!
Take care and call me if you need assistance with timesheets, the training plan, etc. Have a very nice weekend.
